Delnor Foundation Awards 2010 Scholarships

Congratulations to the following exemplary students who were awarded scholarships this spring by the Delnor Foundation.  They are pictured receiving their scholarship certificates at a brunch held in their honor this spring at Delnor Hospital.

The Margery Clark Burgess Scholarship was established in honor and memory of Margery Clark Burgess, a past student at St. Charles High School.  This year, that scholarship has been awarded to St. Charles North High School student Michael Byers, who intends to pursue his medical degree at the University of Wisconsin. 

The Delnor Community Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship is awarded by the hospital’s Delnor Auxiliary organization.  The recipients of this year’s scholarships are St. Charles North High School student Emily Selin, who will continue her studies in the fall at Marquette University majoring in physical therapy, and Geneva High School student Brittany Hurley, who will pursue a nursing degree in the fall.

The Olivia Smart Scholarship was established in honor and memory of Olivia Smart, a former head nurse at Community Hospital in Geneva.  This year, that scholarship was awarded to both Batavia High School student Christine Johnson, who will pursue a degree in psychiatry at Washington University in St. Louis, and Geneva High School student Jacob Petit, who will major in biomedical engineering at the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana.

Youth Scholarships Available

Delnor-Community Hospital and Olivia Smart Scholarship
(Foundation sponsored $1,000 scholarships)
Presented to graduating high school seniors who reside in or attend school within the Delnor primary service area, and who intend to pursue a degree in the healthcare field.

The Margery Clark Burgess Memorial Scholarship
(Foundation sponsored $1,000 scholarships)
Presented to a graduating high school senior from Community School District #303 who intends to pursue a degree in the healthcare field.

Adult Scholarships Available

The DCHA Adult Education Scholarship--Application Deadline is June 13, 2010
(Foundation sponsored $2,500 scholarships)
Will be presented to an individual (18 and over) who (1) is presently enrolled in either an undergraduate or graduate program with a declared major in a health care field or (2) is a High School graduate returning to post secondary school to pursue a major in a health care field. The applicants must reside in the Delnor primary service area, or be a Delnor employee or volunteer for at least two years, or be a paid and active member of the Delnor Foundation for at least two years.
